This website has been developed by Jim Bloomer and Roddy Urquhart who are both members of the UK Metric Association (UKMA). Hillwalkers in the UK typically use Ordnance Survey maps with both metric grid references and elevations. Despite this, most lists of peaks used by hillwalkers are based on imperial criteria. Both Jim and Roddy independently thought that this situation was unsatisfactory and that there was a need for a new generation of map-compatible hill lists. They came into contact with each other through UKMA.
Jim has created a database of UK peaks building on the work of earlier lists and databases. Jim and Roddy defined a way of classifying peaks involving a combination of prominence and height. They see the database as being a foundation for a new generation of hillwalking lists. Two new generation lists are given on this website.
The website has been created with the help and support of UKMA.
